WORKING BEES FOR WILDLIFE CARERS

A FEW THINGS FOR CARERS TO CONSIDER

What will the volunteers do :

House work – sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning kitchens, bathrooms and laundries.

Clear outs – move piles of stuff out of the way for cleaning, some basic sorting out, consolidating and setting up storage zones

Yard work – raking, sweeping, making green waste piles

Animal cages/enclosures – making and fixing fences, setting up animal spaces

Basically – if you want something done, just ask.

The volunteers have been instructed that they can decline any task they don't feel comfortable doing. But you are free to ask for assistance with anything. It doesn't have to have anything to do with your wildlife caring activities. The whole point of helping you is acknowledging that you work so hard on helping wildlife, that you deserve some help with other everyday chores and big catch up jobs around the house and yard.

Make a list :

Jot down all the things you would like to be done.

Let the volunteers know which things are most important and they will start with them first. They may not finish everything.

Something on your list may require special skills, tools or supplies. If it can't be done on the day the volunteers turn up, we may be able to work out a way to get it done later. Just stick it on the list and we'll see what we can do.

If your list is ready before volunteers are assigned, send it to us and we'll try to send the most suitable people for the various jobs you need done.

Your list might look something like this :

• Clear back deck, clean off poo, roughly sort stuff

• Repair fallen fence – need good pliers, already have wire

• Rake poo up from backyard – we've got rake etc.

• Clean wombat room in house

• Do as many loads of washing as you can fit in

• Mop kitchen and bathroom

Don't be shy – if the volunteer doesn't want to do a thing, they can decline – but it's totally ok for you to ask. Be clear about any instructions regarding animals Eg. Don't make loud noises around the joeys. Don't touch the bats. etc.
